Excellence, Truth and Grace’

‘Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.’

Philippians 4: 8-9

Gospel Values

Our Gospel Values are drawn from the Philippians verse; this is the verse which underpins all that we strive for within school and is summarised in the phrase, 'Excellence, truth & grace.'

At Middleton Parish we have chosen six Gospel Values:

  • Community
  • Respect
  • Love
  • Humility
  • Forgiveness
  • Endurance

As a church school, which is proud to be part of the parish of St. Leonard’s, we recognise and celebrate the main festivals in the Christian calendar and our values also link to these important events. The children’s social, moral, physical and emotional development is further enhanced by ensuring that the Gospel Values also link to the British Values of: Democracy; Mutual Respect; Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs; Individual Liberty and the Rule of Law. To further support this learning the children also consider ‘Picture News’ resources weekly. These resources enable the children to learn about the world around them so that they can develop respect for others’ identity, feelings, beliefs and faith.

We are a HeartSmart school

HeartSmart is a creative approach that we use to build character, emotional health & resilience in our children. The children’s learning is built around the HeartSmart High 5: -

  • Don’t Forget To Let Love In! Learning how important, valued and loved we are
  • Too Much Selfie Isn’t Healthy! Exploring the importance of others and how to love them well
  • Don’t Hold Onto What’s Wrong! Understanding how to process negative emotion and choose forgiveness to restore relationships
  • Fake Is A Mistake! Unpacking how to bravely communicate truth and be proud of who we are
  • ‘No Way Through’, Isn’t True! Knowing there is a way through every situation, no matter how impossible it may seem
